10 Unique Animals to the Galapagos Islands

A series of truly fascinating volcanic islands - there really is no where else quite like the Galapagos. With such fast speed evolution there are many species here that can not be found any where else in the world.

1) Blue Footed Boobies.

With such bright blue feet you would be forgiven for thinking there two have been dipped in paint. But no that is a real product of the Galapagos.

2) Galapagos Tortoise

Cycling around the islands you will find many a giant tortoises roaming around .. they quickly become part of the furniture.

3) Galapagos Penguins

It is very unusual to find wild penguins this close to the equator … because of this they have evolved to be much smaller than their cousins close to the poles.

4) Galapagos mocking bird

We are beginning to see a bit of a pattern with the naming process here….

5) Marine Iguanas

The only known iguanas in the worlds to be able to survive underwater .. they were forced to evolve in this way to find food and stay alive.

6)Lava Lizards

There are 20 different types of lava lizards .. 6 of which are endemic to the Galapagos

7) Galapagos fur seals.

This is not an unusual sight on the Islands. … you will often find you loose your seat to a seal basking in the afternoon sun.

8)Magnificent Frigatebird

I think somebody else was in charge of naming this one… These birds are unable to take off from the water … so when our at sea they will keep flying for days or even weeks until they find land.

9) Galapagos Hawk

These large hawks will vary in size depending on which of the islands they live on

10) Waved Albatross

Also known as the Galapagos Albatross … of course they are!
